There is a Neighborly Services Committee of Forest Commons. The Neighborly Services Committee, headed by the chair, is responsible for coordinating activities designed to help one individual or family. Presently the chair keeps a list of volunteers who have volunteered to hear from her when requests are made for particular “short-term assistance.”

The hope is that relationships arise organically in the neighborhood over time. Gatherings are held twice annually for block representatives (ambassadors) to get to know each other better and build our sense of community. The chair of Neighborly Services who presently acts as coordinator as well may at times match volunteers with those neighbors requesting assistance.

From folks living by themselves to members of busy families, we all could use some extra help from time to time. We all have needs to fill and assets to offer. Many of us already connect through the Forest Park neighborhood listserv or through neighborhood gatherings.  Others may wish to make requests in a more confidential manner through a coordinator.

Whatever the situation, neighbors can consider, requesting to receive, and/or volunteering to offer short-term assistance through Forest Commons to check on possible volunteer availability through this source when other informal support networks can not offer the short-term assistance. Neighbors who would  like to volunteer to provide short-term assistance to a neighbor in Forest Park or would  like to receive simple short-term assistance from a neighborhood volunteer are encouraged to call our Google phone number at 919-346-4992 to explore possibilities.
